Teen Vogue editor quits after being called out for racist tweets

The recently announced editor in chief of Teen Vogue is quitting before she begins on the job, reports CBS News.

Alexi McCammond resigned after her staff revolted following the announcement from parent company Conde’ Nast of her hiring earlier this month.

Racist tweets from McCammond about the Asian American community surfaced in 2019.

Knowing this, the staff protested the decision to bring her into the top job at Teen Vogue.

In a statement on Twitter, McCammond wrote  “past tweets have overshadowed the work I’ve done to highlight the people and issues that I care about”.

“Conde Nast and I have decided to part ways.”

In past tweets, McCammond made comments about a “stupid Asian TA,” and “being outdone by Asian.”

In a letter to Conde Nast management, employees at Teen Vogue wrote about taking pride in the “outlet’s reputation as a voice for justice and change” and openly opposed her taking the helm as editor-in-chief.
