Sikhs send message of love to killer’s family in FedEx shooting

By Louis Chan, AsAmNews National Correspondent

The founder of Indianapolis’ largest Sikh gurdwara sent a message of love to the family of Brandon Hole, the 19-year old who killed eight FedEx employees before killing himself Friday.

KP Singh says he has been a resident of Indianapolis since 1967 and considers himself a Sikh American, a patriotic American and a Hoosier.

“They are themselves the victims,” said KP Singh, founder of Sikh Satsang in Indianapolis, about the family of Hole to AsAmNews. “They have this whole burden to carry now for the rest of their lives. And so we will pray for them as well as we will pray for all eight victims.”

The Hole family earlier this week sent a message of apology to all the victims’ families.

“Our sincerest and most heartfelt apologies go out to the victims of this senseless tragedy. We are so sorry for the pain and hurt being felt by their families and the entire Indianapolis community,” the family’s statement said.

Singh said he hoped the Hole family will gain comfort knowing that nothing negative will come to them from locals Sikhs who are both Hoosiers and members of the community.

He said the focus right now is find support for all the affected families who must be sustained beyond all the media attention.

He called on those who want to show solidarity with the victims to hold their hand and show solidarity.

Meanwhile the South Asian Legal Defense and Education Fund says it is in touch with law enforcement which is scouring the gunman’s computer and digital media to determine a possible motive.

“Our sangat (community) is in pain,” the group said in a statement to AsAmNews.  “We cannot discount the history and context of violence in this country targeting minorities and the marginalized, immigrants and the elderly, women and workers.”

  1. Forgiveness and grace. I wish the Anglo-Saxon community held the same love for all as the Sikhs have demonstrated, as most ‘minority’ groups in this country demonstrate. There is no revenge enacted by Muslims, Jews, Asians, the Native Nations and Blacks when we have been over and over again violated from being called names and spit at to the extreme- murder. We have not harmed anyone and yet the violence against us. And then, forgiveness. But we must be heard. Our voices must be loud and strong against racism. And we have begun.
