Two months after his death, the large Hmong community in Fresno, CA held a funeral for Col. Vang Fong, reports ABC30 this weekend.
A horse drawn carriage carried Fong’s casket at the funeral attended by community members from across the country.
Fresno is one of the largest Hmong community’s in the United States.
“Colonel Vang Fong was one our greatest strengths. He was one of the fathers who led Hmong to America,” said Maj. Nhia Vang to the Fresno Bee.

Events to honor Fong’s life began Saturday and were held over three days, ending today, Monday.
“It is a tremendous loss for the community.” Vang said.
Fong died February 17 at the age of 77.
A burial is scheduled for today at Fresno Memorial Gardens.
He came to the United States in 1980 after spending several years in Thailand after being airlifted out of Laos. He eventually settled in Montana before arriving in Huntington Beach and then the Fresno area.
In the funeral program, Fong was remembered for working “tirelessly with the late General Vang Pao in advocacy, ensuring equality, social justice, and opportunities for Hmong families in America.”
