AsAmNews teams up with Producers Guild & Amazon Studios

AsAmNews, together with the Producers Guild of America, Amazon Studios, Asian Cinevision and Visual Communications presents a conversation with Minari producer Christina Oh on May 20.

The intimate 60 minute discussion will be hosted by journalist Janet W Lee. The AAPI Working Group of PGA worked hard with the others to make this happen.

The event which is free of charge is part of a larger conversation on Asian American Pacific Islander representation in the media dubbed Amazon Studio Voices.

Also joining a day filled with panels are Daniel Dae Kim, Sophia Ali and Stephanie Hsu.

“Amazon Studios DEI has been diving deep into our own data, examining our systems and structures, and reimagining our policies to be unapologetic about what inclusive, authentic, and nuanced storytelling looks like,” said Latasha Gillespie, global head of DEI for Amazon Studios and IMDb, to Variety. “Improving representation and eliminating harmful stereotypes will not happen overnight, and will not happen in a vacuum. That is why we are inviting the whole industry to join us in this event and in this work.”

The half day event will also include musical performances by AJ Rafael, Alyssa Navarro and Amber Liu.

“We have been having these vital conversations as a company and are excited to bring these discussions, centering the API community, to our whole industry. Please join us as we work to change the narrative around API representation on screen,” said Albert Cheng, Amazon Studios’ chief operating officer and co-head of TV, said to Variety.
