Filipino Am family remembers victim in San Jose shooting

A Filipino American man is among the 9 killed when a disgruntled employee killed co-workers at the VTA transit yard in San Jose.

Paul Delacruz Megia is a father of three children and a step son, reports the Conan Daily.

He commuted to work daily to San Jose from Tracy, some 55 miles away. He is married and the only son of Leonard and Edna Megia.

“He’s my son and my best friend,” said Leonard Magia to Fox40.

“Yeah, we miss him. He is supposed to be here with us today,” his mother said.

His family says he began working for the VTA in 2002 and worked his way up from a bus operator trainee to  assistant superintendent in service management.

His family began driving immediately to the transit yard when news of the shooting first broke out. They knew something was wrong when he didn’t answer his phone.

When he’s not working, he loved being with his kids and following the Oakland A’s and Raiders. He was just 42 and had plans to visit Disney World in Florida this week.

“I don’t know what to do because he’s gone,” his father said. “I wish he was still here.”
