Actress and comedian Awkwafina will join comedian Hari Kondabolu and best selling author Min Jin Lee at a free virtual gala celebrating the Brooklyn Public Library’s 125th birthday on Tuesday.
All the celebrities involved are from Queens. According to Patch, Kondabolu used to live in Jackson Park and Flora Heights, Lee grew up in Elmhurst and Awkwafina was born and raised in Forest Hills. Her life there is the basis for her hit comedy, Nora is from Queens.
The celebrities all wished a happy birthday to the library in a video promoting the gala.
Although the gala is free, people will be encouraged to make a donation.
“This past year has only reinforced the value of Queens Public Library,” said Carl S. Koerner, president of the Queens Public Library Foundation, speaking about the pandemic. He called the library a lifeline during the past 18 months.
