Police have arrested a suspect in connection with an attack on a 75-year-old Asian woman in Queens, New York, ABC 7 reports.

Authorities identified the suspect as 24-year-old Christian Batista. They arrested Batista Monday morning, charging him assault in the second and third degree.

The attack occurred around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday near 97th Place and 57th Avenue, according to CBS New York. Surveillance video footage shows the suspect punch the Chinese American woman as she walks by.

The victim sustained two black eyes and a fractured eye socket and nose. Her son says she was surrounded by helpful bystanders who called for help.

“She said people around were nice enough to help her call the ambulance. They came to pick her up and stuff like that, so I’m glad people around here at least stick up for each other,” the victim’s son told CBS New York.

The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force is looking into the attack as a potential hate crime.
