Michelle Wie West makes cut. Danielle Kang leads in SF

Home cooking is doing LPGA’s Danielle Kang some good.

The golfer from San Francisco leads the Mediheal Championship at San Francisco’s Lake Merced Golf Club with a score Friday of six under, Yahoo reports.

She hit six birdies Friday, roaring back from six shots back to take the top position going into Saturday.

“I actually played really well from the beginning, better than I did on the back nine,” Kang said. “I just couldn’t quite get the ball to the hole, but I knew I was putting well.

Fellow Asian American and Connecticut native Lauren Kim is right behind Kang tied for second. This is the Stanford grad’s rookie year in the LPGA.

Ireland’s Leona Maguire is tied with Kim for second.

Michelle Wie West also made the news making her first cut on the tour since February 2019 at the Honda LPGA Thailand. She’s still well back, however, at 4 over, reported KHON.

However, she’s not likely satisfied.

“Goal-wise, obviously I want to win,” said Wie in March, according to Golf Week. “I’m not out here just to make the cut or just to do whatever.”

Wie West did not tour for 21 months due to an injury and later to give birth to her daughter, Makenna.
