Elderly woman IDed in threat to shoot Cambodian Americans

Police in Philadelphia say a 79-year-old woman has come forward claiming to be the person behind an anonymous letter threatening to shoot Cambodian Americans, reports NBC Philadelphia.

The woman has not been publicly identified and many of the claims made in the letter do not match the woman’s background.

In the letter, the writer claimed to be a former member of the military and she does not have access to weapons. The letter writer threatened violence saying she was upset at people setting off fireworks.

“I own several guns that are locked up, but I want to take a gun and kill these individuals,” read the letter, according to ABC6.

As AsAmNews reported yesterday, The Cambodian Association of Greater Philadelphia received the letter which threatened to shoot Cambodians at Mifflin Square Park.

CAGP Executive Director Sarun Chan told CBS3 it normally uses the park for its summer camp, but has decided against that out of precaution.

“We’re distraught. But we’re not going to be silenced,” he said. “We want to make sure that we address this head-on and that we still amplify our visibility and our voice.”

Philadelphia has the fourth largest Cambodian population in the country.
