Rash of armed robberies hit Chicago Chinatown

Police in Chicago are investigating a series of armed robberies which hit within a two hour period over the July 4th weekend.

CBS Chicago reports the first happened at 8:45 in Chinatown and River North on July 3. Within the next 10 minutes, the suspects would strike two more times.

Then 90 minutes later, two more armed robberies would occur.

Fox 32 obtained surveillance video of one of the robberies. The suspects do not even seemed concerned about anyone witnessing their crimes.

“The criminals are emboldened,” said Ald. Byron Sigcho-Lopez. “They have absolutely no fear of the repercussions of the crime. Sadly, I don’t see that changing.”

Dr. Hong Liu of the Midwest Asian Health Association says children can’t even play outdoors out of fear of the rampant crime.

Surveillance video also spotted a white vehicle driving up to a parked car and opening fire, seriously injuring a 27-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man.
