The boy who could grow up to be the next Asian American tennis star is on the rise.
Samir Banerjee took the Wimbledon Junior Men’s Title on Saturday. The 17-year-old from New Jersey defeated fellow American Victor Lilov 7-5, 6-3, reported India Today.
Banerjee eventually pumped his fist in the air after winning the championship as the crowd cheered, but not before expressing shock at what he accomplished.
His victory of the prestigious tournament is somewhat of a surprise. The International Tennis Federation is ranked 19th worldwide. His overall record is 64-15.
Among his 64 victories are four clay court victories in 2020, according to Money Control.
He will attend Columbia University in the fall.
