A mother and father have been reunited with their son who was abducted 24 years ago, The Daily Beast reports. The father spent all 24 years searching for him.

In 1997, Guo Gantang’s son Xinzhen was abducted outside his family home in Shandong, China. He was just 2-years-old, The Daily Mail reports.

Over the next two dozen years, traveled 310,000 miles on 10 different motorbikes searching for his son. He carried a photo of his son with him everywhere, looking for clues.

Eventually, Gantang’s search led to the identification of his son’s kidnappers, The Daily Beast reports. They discovered Xinzhen was taken by a couple who needed money. The couple hoped to sell Xinzhen to traffickers.

Guo’s search for his son inspired the film Lost and Love. The film premiered in 2015, starring Hong Kong actor Andy Lau.

Police revealed that Xinzhen is healthy but did not disclose where he has been for the last 24 years, according to The Daily Beast.

Chinese television broadcasted the reunion between Xinzhen and his parents.

“Now that the child has been found, everything can only be happy from now on,” Guo said during the reunion, according to The Daily Beast. “It is an important day for me.”
