Twittersphere comes to defense of Indian Am intern at NASA

An Indian American intern at NASA endured backlash after the space agency posted her picture along with other diverse interns.

However, the American Kahani reports others are now coming to her defense.

The tweet appears to be an effort by NASA to encourage people of color to apply for their internship program. The photo of Pratima Roy shows her sitting at her desk with a bindi on her forehead and the idols of Goddess Lakshmi, Saraswati, and others in the background.

Trolls took offense to that with some condemning the use of idols in the background and others questioning why a science-based agency would feature someone who believes in God.

However, so many have come to Roy’s defense that it’s hard to find any of those comments.

The post has been taken over by those applauding diversity and condemning “Hinduphobia.”

According to the American Kahani, Roy interned with NASA along with her sister Puja.

“I truly believe that God and the support of my family has given me the opportunity to intern at NASA. God observes everything we do and what we want in our lives and a dream can actually come true!” she said.
