Woman arrested in spree of anti-Asian attacks in NY

Police in New York Thursday arrested a 25-year-old woman and accused her in four separate attacks on Asian Americans.

The incidents occurred on four separate days beginning in March and ending in July against women ages 75, 63 and 34 and a man, 23, according to the New York Post.

Sources tell the Post Maricia Bell has five prior arrests including March 29 when prosecutors hit her with a charge of assault as a hate crime.

ABC7 reports on March 23 Bell is accused of asking the victim “why are you looking at me” and then punching a 23-year old Asian American man in the face, causing minor injuries.

On June 16, the suspect allegedly ask a 34-year-old Asian American woman the same question and punched her in the back of the head.

On July 11, police say the suspect punched a 73-year-old Asian American woman in the cheek causing swelling and pain.

Earlier this week on July 21, she’s accused of striking a 75-year old Asian American woman from behind in the back of the head with an unknown object as the victim collected cans.

Bell faces several hate crime charges, including assault, harassment and robbery, police said.
