A person of interest has been arrested for the murder of a missing Virginia woman after leading police to her body, reports Crime Online.
Police in Fairfax County arrested 25-year-old Brian George Sayrs Jr for second degree murder for the killing of Emily Lu, 72.
Lu went missing on June 3 after going shopping. Authorities found her car with her possessions still inside.
Police describe Sayrs as one of Lu’s tenants.
NBC Washington reports that police today described the killing today during a news conference as a “brutal, vicious murder.”
Police said they had long considered Sayr a person of interest, but did not say what triggered him to lead authorities to her body.
Sayrs called police Friday evening.
“He met with us immediately and brought us to this area,” Maj. Ed O’Carroll said.
Authorities found Lu in a wooded area about 2 miles from her home.
WTOP reports the coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
“He knew he was our person of interest and for whatever reason … and hopefully we’ll eventually know the answer to that but I’m glad that we did because we owe this moment to Emily Lu’s family,” Chief Kevin Davis said.
