Olympic gold medalist Sunisa Lee reunited with her family on the Today Show this morning.
The first person she hugged was her father.
“You did great. You did awesome,” her father John Lee could be heard whispering in her ear as the two embraced.
Suni’s mom Yeev Thoj could be heard sniffling as she unsuccessfully held back tears.
Brother and sister Jonah and Shyenne were also present and beamed with excitement.
The family chuckled when Suni stopped short of hugging her siblings and chose instead to sit down for her interview.
Host Hoda Kotb explained Suni had seen her sister the day before which Suni herself had already revealed on Instagram.
“I feel so proud. I’m so happy to see them,” she said.
At the prompting of the Today Show, Lee took off her gold medal and put it around her father’s neck to the cheers of the audience in attendance.
“I never thought I would ever get one of these,” said father John. “She did it. She brought it home.”
The Olympian told her hometown paper she plans to bring her medals with her to Auburn University next week where she will enter as a first year student.
“They’re a really good reminder. They’re going to push me every single day to be even better.”
