Miracle wife hoped for doesn’t happen. Jogger found dead

For three weeks, Jen Yao held out hope her husband would somehow turn up alive after not returning home from his run.

Her ultramarathoner husband Philip Kreycik had gone jogging in Pleasanton, east of San Francisco.

A volunteer found his body 250 feet off the trail on Tuesday, the Pleasanton Weekly reported. On Thursday, his wife and parents spoke publicly about him for the first time.

He’s survived by his wife and an 11 month old and three year old.

“Of course our focus is always on the kids. To make this as gentle for them as possible,” said Yao to ABC7 News.

As of yesterday, she had not yet told her son that her dad will not be returning home.

“We will tell them stories, we will show them pictures and they will grow up knowing what their father was like,” she struggled to say through tears.

Kreycik is described by police as a very experienced runner. There’s still no official cause of death or an explanation of what happened.

Yao’s focus remains on the children.

“Phil’s told me that I’m the toughest person he knows when it counts the most, and if there ever was a time that counts the most, it would be now,” Yao said to NBC Bay Area.
