A Filipino American doctor from Las Vegas is being honored as one of six frontline workers with a Barbie Doll in her image.
Dr. Audrey Cruz is being commended along with others who have made tremendous sacrifices to fight the pandemic, reports KLAS-TV.
The Las Vegas Review Journal reports the doll is available at Target, with $5 from each purchase going to the First Responders Children’s Foundation.
Mattel chose Cruz because she also joined with other Asian American doctors to fight racism and discrimination.
“I was like, What?! Me? It was unreal,” Cruz said to KLAS. “I was just like, ‘Are you sure you have the right person?”
Cruz took part in a viral Instagram video under the hashtag #IAmNotAVirus.
“As healthcare professionals and physicians we take an oath to do no harm,” Cruz said at the time she released the video. “Our patients, we treat them for their medical conditions and we do what we can to save lives. As physicians, we don’t stop. [Regardless of] what your race is, we’ll treat you no matter what.”
She hopes to be a role model for young children.
“Whatever skin color you are, whatever background you come from, it’s possible for you,” she said.
