Clubhouse influencer dies of COVID two weeks after being hospitalized

A Clubhouse influencer with more than 120,000 followers died Friday, less than two weeks after being admitted to the hospital.

His sister who organized a Go Fund Me campaign for medical costs made the announcement.

Jin Yu is known to his followers as @WolfxLion. He founded the Clubhouse room Talk Nerdy to Me, which has 246,000 members.

“I am at a loss of words as my heart is shattered in this moment but we wanted all of you to know,” wrote Julie Yu-Meier. “I knew that if there was a miracle it would be my brother Jin but in the same breath I know he is resting now. That’s all for now…we love you all so much.”

According to People, Yu moved with his family at a young age to Minnesota from his birth home of Daegu, South Korea. He eventually went out to Los Angeles to pursue the restaurant business, but later made the transition to tech.

He co-founded the app the app Surkus and also became the chief growth officer of Vezt Inc, a blockchain music royalty company.

It is unclear whether he was vaccinated, but his death is a reminder of how severe the COVID variant can be.

The Go Fund Me campaign for him raised more than $135,000 with people continuing to donate even after his death.
