Former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley Sunday accused President Biden of surrendering to the Taliban, reports the American Bazaar.
“They have surrendered the American people and actually withdrew our troops before they withdrew the American people,” said Haley speaking on CBS’ Face the Nation. “And they’ve abandoned our Afghan allies who kept people like my husband safe. They’re not negotiating with the Taliban. They’ve completely surrendered to the Taliban.”
Haley also warned the Biden administration not to formally recognize them as the new Afghan government, Newsweek reported.
She wrote in an op-ed published in the Washington Post that the regime’s “evil actions” would be rewarded if we do so
Haley believes “it would bring the United States even lower while raising up a regime that deserves nothing.”
CBS News reports the Trump Administration negotiated a deal last year with the Taliban to withdraw troops by May of this year. However, Biden extended that deadline.
As of Sunday, 25,000 people had been evacuated from the country, a defense official told CBS. It’s not known how many of those are Americans, although earlier Biden had put the number of Americans in the country at between 10,000 – 15,000.
18 commercial planes from six U.S. airlines have been utilized to get people out of the country.
Biden has received criticism from both parties for his handling of the troop withdrawal. Biden blamed former President Trump for leaving the country in “the strongest position militarily since 2001.”
Haley has been mentioned as a possible contender for the Republican nomination for president in 2024.
