A Bangor, Maine man is speaking out about the hurtful graffiti found spray painted on his car.
Pakistani American Tahmoor Khan discovered the “N” word scrawled on his car along with the words “KKK supporter.”
“It’s egregious. It’s disgusting,” Tahmoor Khan, 33, said to the Bangor Daily News. “It’s just downright heinous for them to come into my driveway, into my home, and write these kinds of words.”
Khan has lived in Bangor for three decades.
CBS5 reports Bangor Police are investigating this as a hate crime and that the findings will be sent to the State Attorney General.
Police cited two 15-year-old girls and released them back to their parents.
According to Fox23, a group has come forward to help Khan clean his car for free and the city council has offered it support.
“We, the members of the Bangor City Council, categorically condemn this incident and want to make clear this is not representative of our community. Silence by those in positions of authority only emboldens those that seek to divide. In an editorial a few months ago, we said there is room for all in Bangor but there is no place for hate. Today we reaffirm that statement,” the council said.
Khan has no doubt the vandals targeted him because of his race.
“At the end of the day, I think it’s just because I’m a brown person and they felt like they needed to target somebody,” Khan said. “And they did.”
