Chipotle manager accused of pulling hijab off workers head

A Chipotle manager who has since been fired is now facing a criminal charge on accusations he pulled a hijab off a worker’s head.

The Lenexa Police in Kansas Thursday charged Kevin Silva-Garcia with battery, reports The Kansas City Star.

Areej Saifan told Fox4 her assistant manager kept asking to see her hair.

“I kept telling him stop and no and I just tried to ignore it. So I went back to work and he just came behind me, pulled my scarf, and I really don’t have any idea what like would make someone do, like do that.”

She also says Chipotle asked her to be transferred so that she wouldn’t get fired, according to the Star.

The chain fired the manager two weeks ago, but did not tell Saifan who only found out after filing a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

“We have a zero tolerance policy for discrimination of any kind and we terminated the employee in question nearly two weeks ago following a thorough investigation,” Chipotle said in a statement.
