British tennis player Emma Radacanu defeated Belinda Bencic in the US Open quarter-finals Wednesday afternoon to advance to the semi-finals.
The 18-year-old, who is unranked in the tournament, beat no. 11 seed Bencic in straight sets: 6-3, 6-3.
The teenager had to play additional matches in order to qualify for the US Open. She is the first qualifier, man or woman, to advance to the semi-final.
After the match, Raducanu thanked her team and the people supporting her back at home.
“I wish you could be here with me but everything we’ve been working for is showing here today,” she said.
