Indian American Uber driver Kuldip Singh, 21, died from wounds related to an attempted robbery in Harlem, New York last weekend, ABC7 reports. A 15-year-old boy was also critically injured during the altercation.

Police believe that the robber entered Singh’s car, which already contained a passenger. While the intended victim of the robbery is unclear, the robber then engaged in an altercation with the 15-year-old, who was standing on the sidewalk.

According to the police, the robber shot the 15-year-old, who then returned fire. A stray bullet from the 15-year-old struck Singh in the head, resulting in his death. The 15-year-old is currently in stable condition at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, New York Post reports.

After the shooting, the robber ran from the scene. Police are currently still searching for the robber.

In a statement in response to the incident, an Uber spokesperson said, “Our hearts are with Mr. Singh, his passengers, and their loved ones after this horrific and senseless act of violence.”
