Sheriff deputies arrested a Colorado man who claims he killed his wife in self defense on charges of first degree murder, reports The Denver Channel.
Authorities also arrested his mother and charged her as an accessory in the case.
Officers from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department originally arrested Scott Smith in the death of Kanokwan Smith last November, but they later released him. The suspect said his wife tried to kill him with a butcher knife and had no other way to defend himself but to shoot her.
A neighbor expressed his grief last year to the Denver News Channel.
“She’ll never be able to wrap her arms around her little girl again and he shouldn’t have that right,” Dominique Naylor said. “He shouldn’t be out and he shouldn’t be free.”

According to CBS4, Smith faces additional charges of tampering with physical evidence and domestic violence. They also arrested Theresa Rino, 66, on charges of being an accessory to a crime, attempting to tamper with evidence and conspiracy to tamper with evidence.
Smith is next due back in court on November 16.
The victim’s family is from Thailand.
