School principal and district silent about bullying incident

By Louis Chan, AsAmNews National Correspondent

Family friends of a bullied middle school student says the boy’s mother is desperate for help to protect her son.

Video posted on Twitter by Jackfroot shows the boy being punched in the face. The victim first retreats in pain and then walks away, but his attacker follows him and pushes him from behind into a wall and onto the ground.

“The mom is desperate because she fears this will continue to go on and she doesn’t speak any English to defend her son and take further action,” friends of the victim’s family stated on social media. “School just continues to ignore her and she is not able to communicate with them.”

A still grab of the post has been reposted on Instagram by Jackfroot.

The friends say the incident happened at Oxon Hill Middle School in Ft. Washington, MD.

AsAmNews reached out to both the principal and the school district, Prince George’s County Public School on Saturday morning. More than 48 hours later, interim principal Tiwana Cook has not responded.

The district replied with a two sentence comment.

“Unfortunately, my agency does not cover issues related to this. I hope this situation is able to get resolved,” emailed Linda M. Lowe, public information officer of Prince George’s County Public School.

When AsAmNews asked her to elaborate, she did not reply.

A commenter tells AsAmNews the victim may be Latino, not Asian. A few similar comments have been sent to Jackfroot as well. We have removed the ethnicity of the victim until this can be clarified.

  1. The school’s failure to act may be in violation of School Board policy 5143. She should seek legal assistance regarding a lawsuit.
