Indian Am Trump associate cooperating in Capitol riot investigation

Trump loyalist Kash Patel is reportedly cooperating in the House investigation into the Capitol riot, reports American Kahani.

Kash served as chief of staff to the acting Secretary of Defense during the Trump administration.

He received a short postponement of his scheduled testimony on Thursday, but is described as still engaging with the committee.

“There is substantial reason to believe that you have additional documents and information relevant to understanding the role played by the Department of Defense and the White House in preparing for and responding to the attack on the U.S. Capitol, as well as documents and information relating to your personal involvement in planning for events on January 6 and the peaceful transfer of power,” Rep Bennie Thompson (D-MS) wrote to Patel.

The Republican responded saying he is “disappointed but not surprised” by the subpoena he received to testify.

“I will continue to tell the truth to the American people about the events of January 6th.”

It has been widely reported that Patel was involved “in discussions among senior Pentagon officials before and during the attack regarding security at the Capitol,” The New York Times reported.

According to the BBC, Kash is one of four Trump associates to receive subpoenas. The others are Trump ally Mark Meadows, Trump adviser Steve Bannon and former deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino. The former president has asked all four not to cooperate in the investigation.

Authorities are expected to move to hold Bannon in contempt of court for refusing to comply with the subpoena, CNN reports.

Patel served as a top staffer under Rep Devin Nunes (R-CA) to counter the FBI probe into Trump’s ties with Russia. He later became senior director for counterterrorism in the National Security Council and helped to rid the agency of those opposing Trump policies, Salon reported.

“I pride myself on my record as a dedicated national security professional who is entrusted to handle our nation’s most sensitive matters,” he said i “At no time have I strayed from my mission to protect the homeland in service to President Trump and the National Security Council.”
