Bangladeshi man killed in NY Chinatown in e-bike robbery

The murder in Manhattan Chinatown of a GrubHub delivery man has left a wife and two children devastated.

“She’s crying. She has nothing now,” the victim’s brother-in-law Mamun Alah said about the victim’s wife to WPIX11. “She’s crying.”

WPIX11 reports Abu Miah Sala had just wrapped up his late night shift when he decided to rest on a park bench at 1 a.m. early Saturday.

Surveillance video shows a man wearing a mask, hooded sweatshirt and gloves sitting down near Sala on an adjacent bench. The video then shows the aftermath of the stabbing as the suspect rides off with the victim’s e-bike.

Authorities say Sala died with stab wounds to the face and stomach.

Alah says he’s often hears about violent crimes in the news.

“But when you’re in the news, it’s terrible,” he said.

According to the Dhakarta Tribune, Sala is Bangladeshi.

The Tribune reports Sala ran to a park employee for help while heavily bleeding. Emergency personnel rushed him to Bellevue Hospital where he died.

The Daily Mail also reports Sala tried to chase the attacker as he drove off with his bike. Police say a struggle between the two men broke out as the man attempted to steal the bike.

Friends said he had been sending money back to his wife and his 20-year-old son and 11-year-old son in Bangladesh.

“We’re just completely devastated at this time, and I just feel bad for his family … I can’t describe right now what they’re going through,” said another relative Muhammad Ahsan.
