A Henry County police officer in Georgia has died of his injuries after being shot responding to a domestic abuse case.
A gunman shot Paramhans Desai, an Indian American father of two, on November 4. Desai died four days later in the hospital, reports WGXA.
“I have never ever heard anyone say anything negative about him. Ever. He truly loved his job. And he truly loved serving his community,” said Henry County Police Chief Mark Amerman to 11 Alive.
Jana Beasley called the police to do a welfare check on her friend. She said Desai was the officer that responded and found her friend dead.
“He was so kind to me. His kindness made things better,” she said to 11 Alive.
“Officer Desai continues to serve, even in his passing, by donating multiple organs which will save numerous lives. Please continue to keep Officer Desai’s family in your thoughts and prayers through this terrible tragedy,” the Department said in a statement.
The suspect, Jordan Jackson, shot and killed himself on Tuesday, seconds before being captured, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
A $60,000 reward, including $5,000 donated by former NBA great Shaquille O’Neil, had been offered for his arrest.
