America’s culture wars apparently now include Sesame Street.
The long-running children’s show favorite is being called “insane” following the introduction of Ji-Young, a Korean American muppet who will appear for the first time in a Thanksgiving Day special.
What race is Ernie is Bert? wrote Matt Schlapp, the president of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Twitter. “You are insane PBS and we should stop funding you.”
The Hill reports it was just a few weeks ago that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) criticized Sesame Street for encouraging children to get vaccinated against the coronavirus.
“I got the COVID-19 vaccine today! My wing is feeling a little sore, but it’ll give my body an extra protective boost that keeps me and others healthy,” Big Bird said.
According to Business Insider, conservatives have made Sesame Street a target for what it considers a liberal bias. It’s unclear how vaccinations designed to protect people’s health have become a conservative-liberal divide other than manipulating the uneducated as a way of winning votes seems to work for some.
