A Chinese food delivery driver foiled three would-be robbers in Philadelphia when he pulled out his gun and shot and killed one of them, and injuring a second, reports NBC Philadelphia.
It happened shortly after midnight in Mayfield. One of those shot died at 4:59 a.m. at Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital, according to CBS Philadelphia.
The other remains in critical condition after being shot multiple times.
“The person who was targeted in this robbery was in possession of a valid permit to carry,” inspector DF Pace told CBS Philadelphia. Authorities say the man cooperated with police and numerous security cameras in the area collaborated his story.
One of those can be seen in this Ring video. We warn some readers may find the video disturbing to watch.
Philadelphia Police tells AsAmNews that the investigation is ongoing and that homicide detectives have joined the probe. That may indicate that charges against the driver may not have been ruled out.
There have been conflicting reports as to whether the person was an Uber driver or a food delivery person. It’s possible he could have been an Uber Eats driver. AsAmNews has reached out to the Philadelphia Police Department for clarification and additional information, but authorities have yet to respond to that question.
The shooting left the man with a gun reportedly shaken.
“All he kept saying is ‘I had to, I had to. I didn’t want to,'” Rachael Onimus told CBS Philadelphia.
In the video, you can hear the delivery man screaming “no, no, no.” At one point, one of the suspects can be heard pleading “please, please, please” before the video cuts off. Multiple gun shots could be heard prior to that.
