Olivia Rodrigo, Bruno Mars, Saweetie and More AAPIs Nominated for Grammys

Several Asian Americans have received Grammy nominations for the 2022 Grammy Awards Show.

Teen pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo was nominated for seven awards: Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Music Video. Her first album, Sour, has earned her praise from music critics.

Fellow Filipino American artist Bruno Mars was also nominated for a few Grammys. This year Mars and R&B artist Anderson .Paak announced they were forming a musical duo called “Silk Sonic.” Silk Sonic’s debut single “Leave the Door Open” is nominated for three Grammys: Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best R&B Song.

Several Asian American artists were nominated for Best New Artist including Rodrigo and rapper Saweetie. Saweetie’s song “Best Friend,” which features Doja Cat, is nominated for Best Rap Song.

Japanese Breakfast, an indie rock band headed by Korean-American musician Michelle Zauner, and Arooj Aftab, a Pakistani vocalist, were also nominated for Best New Artist. Japanese Breakfast’s album Jubilee is nominated for Best Alternative Music Album. Aftab’s song Mohabbat is nominated for Best Global Music performance.
