Police in Torrance, California, are warning the public about burglars who could be posing as gardeners and landscapers, ABC 7 reports. The burglars appear to be targeting Asian Americans.
Several burglaries have occurred in recent weeks in the central and eastern areas of Torrance. According to police, the suspects are targeting townhomes in gated communities from those areas.
The homeowners appear to be of Asian descent. They are also likely to own businesses outside of Torrance and have large amounts of cash at home, The Los Angeles Times reports.
Police believe the suspects are three to four individuals who drive late-model American minivans and SUVs, ABC 7 reports.
“Be aware of vehicles that pull in right after residents have entered the security gates,” Sgt. Mark Ponegalek of the Torrance Police Department said, according to ABC 7. “If something or someone causes you to believe criminal activity has or is about to take place, call 911.”
