New York City Mayor Eric Adams is calling on President Biden to apologize for racist COVID-19 rhetoric used by the White House during the Trump Administration.
At a press conference, a reporter asked the mayor what the President could do to address anti-Asian attacks more broadly, Forbes reports. Adams suggested he offer an apology to the Chinese community.
“The president right now should stand up and say, ‘On behalf of the American people, we apologize to the Chinese community,’” Adams said. “We had a president that called COVID the ‘Chinese disease.’ He used hatred terminology. This is a big moment for our country: that we would never allow the Oval Office to be used to attack people in our country.”
Adams told the reporter that he would send Biden a letter based on the question he asked.
