R&B singer and three-time Grammy nominee Jhane Aiko sang America the Beautiful before the Super Bowl.
Four-time Grammy nominee and country singer Mickey Guyton sang the national anthem.
NBC misidentified Guyton as Aiko with a graphic during what is expected to be the most-watched telecast of the year.
Aiko is seen on the left. Guyton is on the right as seen in her Facebook profile picture.
Social media, however, can be unforgiving and didn’t waste time blasting NBC for its mistake.
The director will call for a graphic to be inserted and someone will push a button to get it on the air. Unfortunately, sometimes the person pushing that button calls up the wrong graphic. It happens often in a live telecast, particularly during the news.
Unfortunately, this happened during what will likely be the most-watched telecast of the year.
The director normally would have previewed the graphic before calling for it, but mistakes do happen despite the double-check.
Ironically, Guyton’s latest album is entitled Remember Her Name.
Aiko received three Grammy nominees for her third studio album, Chilombo, in 2020. She is the daughter of daughter of Christina Yamamoto and Karamo Chilombo and is Japanese, Spanish and Dominican on her mother’s side and Native American, African American and German-Jewish on her father’s side.
