Samoan American Files Discrimination Lawsuit Against Waste Management Company

Kauli Saili Jr. has filed a lawsuit against Waste Management of Kansas Inc., claiming he was subjected to a “racially hostile, intimidating and offensive work environment,” while working at Shawnee County’s Rolling Meadows Landfill, The Topeka Capital-Journal reports.

In his lawsuit, Saili detailed several instances of racist discrimination including being passed over for a transfer, being given the least desirable job duties and watching less experienced white co-workers get promotions over him, WIBW reports.

Saili is currently on disability leave, The Topeka Capital-Journal reports. He says Waste Management also retaliated against him for taking qualified time off of work.

This is the second discrimination lawsuit filed against Waste Management of Kansas, WIBW reports. A Black employee named Robert Smith also filed a suit alleging discrimination in January.

Lisa Disbrow, spokeswoman for Waste Management of Kansas, told The Topeka Capital-Journal that the company was unable to comment on a pending lawsuit.
