City official resigns after alleged racist remark against Asians

By Louis Chan, AsAmNews National Correspondent

The city manager of the resort city of Coronado near San Diego has accepted the resignation of the city’s recreational director after an alleged racist remark.

As AsAmNews reported in February, @thatdaneshguy alleged in a TikTok video that Roger Miller and his wife Sandra made racist remarks toward Asians. The city place Miller on administrative leave after the video surfaced and a private school in Riverside fired his wife from her job.

The incident was not captured on camera, but Sandra Miller could be heard saying

“I love that we are not in their country. I love that we are not communism. I love that very much. America is a free country. Go back to China.”

“This decision was made with careful consideration of the best interests of the City, our residents, and our larger community,” said Tina Friend, Coronado’s city manager.  “A resignation allows a separation to take place and the City to move forward without delay.  The investigation effectively ended with Mr. Miller’s resignation as he is no longer a City employee.”

Friend went on to say she is confident her decision following an investigation is appropriate.

“The City understands the impact this situation has had on our employees and our community. I want to be very clear that the City remains a welcoming place to all, and we do not tolerate any form of racism or other discrimination.”
