Two Sentenced in Murder-for-Hire plot of Indian American Chef

A man and a woman have been sentenced to life in prison for a murder-for-hire plot against an Indian American chef from Fremont, California.

Dominic Sarkar, a chef who worked in Mountain View, California, was found shot to death in his bed on Oct. 8, 2018, CBS San Francisco reports. Authorities arrested his domestic partner Maria Moore and Marvel Salvant in connection with his death.

Prosecutors in the case said Moore conspired with Salvant to murder Sarkar in order to collect $800,000 in life insurance benefits. Sarkar and Moore had purchased a $500,000 life insurance policy in April 2016, according to American Kahani. Sarkar’s three daughters were initially listed as beneficiaries on the policy. Moore removed them in September 2016.

The Alameda County DA’s office said evidence showed that Moore wired Salvant $500 a month before the murder, KRON 4 reports. Investigators also linked Salvant to the car seen outside of Sarkar’s house the night of his murder.

On February 7, Moore and Salvant were convicted of first-degree murder with special circumstances, CBS San Francisco reports.

On March 9, a judge sentenced the pair to life in state prison without the possibility of parole, KRON 4 reports.
