99 Ranch Market is set to open its first New York location on April 9 at the Samanea New York Mall, according to the Real Deal. Boasting an impressive 45,000-square-feet, the market sells a variety of Asian food such as Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Southeast Asian food.
The New York location is reported by the Long Island Times to be packed with “10,000 unique items from around the world, including Asian dry groceries, produce, premium meats … and baked goods.” Another concept of the market is its food court, promising to deliver famous dishes such as dim sum as well as desserts.
99 Ranch Market is headquartered in California and its first store opened in 1984, by a Taiwanese immigrant named Roger Chen. Chen created the market to address a lack of Asian products in American markets. Now, the store is one of the largest Asian market chains, with a fleet of 54 stores spanning 10 states, according to the company’s website.
Since its invention, 99 Ranch Market has cemented its place in the Asian American community. Its’s inclusion of pan-Asian products is what differentiates it from markets that sell to specific communities, allowing it to “serve the needs of the diverse breadth of the Asian American community,” according to the South China Morning Post.
More than a market, 99 Ranch Market also focuses its efforts on community building. 99 Ranch Market hosts complimentary cooking classes in partnership with local governments, cultural events, and many programs focused on hunger relief and healthy living.
