A food delivery driver on a scooter to deliver his next meal died after being struck by a bullet in Queens Saturday night, reports AMNY.
Authorities say they found Zhiwen Yan, 45, unresponsive by his bike in Queens on the corner of 108th Street and 67th Drive in Forest Hills.
The shooter fired several times, according to ABC7 but the New York Daily News reports that Yan may have been killed by a stray bullet, citing police sources.
The shooter escaped in a grey or tan sedan.
“There was no interaction between them,” a police source said to the Daily News. “It’s not clear if the (suspect) was aiming at someone else and hit the deliveryman or if he was just letting rounds off (randomly).”
Yan is described as a father of three, including a two year old.
The Forests Hills Group along with his employer, the Great Wall restaurant, are raising money to benefit the three surviving children. The others are ages 12 and 14, according to the Go Fund Me page set up for them.
“Please help this family raise college funds as they are grieving with his loss and income for his family. Any amount can help. He has no life insurance or savings and lived paycheck to paycheck,” the organizers said.
