San Francisco International Film Festival Tributes Michelle Yeoh

The San Francisco International Film Festival paid a special tribute to Michelle Yeoh’s career on April 29, with 1,400 fans in the audience. The special tribute began with a highlight reel of Yeoh’s significant acting roles. Yeoh was also interviewed by Sandra Oh, according to Datebook.

The tribute ended with Yeoh and Oh starting a dance party with the crowd, to the tunes of Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance with Somebody, Daily Hive reports.

In Oh’s interview with Yeoh, the two actresses discussed their approaches to acting and the impact of their acting roles in Killing Eve and Everything Everywhere All At Once respectively. Yeoh stated that her role in the film has been a career-defining experience.

“We are so blessed that we get to walk in and out of the lives of these characters … What I found is they were able to find joy. This family, they never gave up. And that’s what we have to do for each other. … Don’t give up, and believe in who you are. At the end of the day, stay strong,” Yeoh said in her interview with Datebook.

Another inspiring moment of the night also included Oh’s interaction with a student reporter, as reported by Daily Hive. Oh was asked what advice she would give to Asian Americans trying to make a change, and flipped the question back to the student, stating that she wanted to hear what the student had to say.

“You know, I’m doing my job, taking pictures and all that stuff, but it’s really what you’re doing that I think is about really building and developing the real muscle that I feel like we need as Asian Americans,” Oh told Daily Hive.

Everything Everywhere All At Once has topped $20 million in the box office. It features Yeoh, a mother who is fighting to keep her family and business, as she navigates a multiverse.
