Japanese soccer player Takumi Minamino scored a crucial goal for Liverpool FC in their 2-1 win over Southampton on Wednesday. The victory puts Liverpool one point behind league leaders Manchester City with a game left to play.
Liverpool were four points behind Manchester City before the game began. They needed to beat Southampton in order to earn three points.
Southampton scored first in the 13th minute through Nathan Redmond, putting Liverpool in a difficult position. Minamino scored a wonderful goal in the 27th minute to tie the game at 1-1.
Minamino joined Liverpool in January 2020. He had previously been playing for Redbull Salzburg in the German soccer league, the Bundesliga.
The COVID-19 pandemic made it difficult for Minamino to settle into the team. He was loaned to Southampton in 2021.

But this year Minamino has found his form. He scored four goals to help the team win the EFL cup. His goal today keeps Liverpool in the Premier League title race.
