NHL and NFL owner Kim Pegula Being Treated for Health Issues

Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres co-owner Kim Pegula is currently undergoing treatment for unexpected health issues, ABC 13 NY reports.

Pegula is the CEO of Pegula Sports and Entertainment, which owns and manages several sports operations throughout Western New York, SB Nation reports. She operates as the President for both the Bills and the Sabres, making her the first woman to be president of an NFL and an NHL team.

According to ESPN, Pegula’s family issues a statement Tuesday saying she was receiving treatment for unexpected health issues.

“Kim is receiving medical care as a result of some unexpected health issues. We are very grateful for the progress she has made over the past few days. She has an exceptional team of medical experts at her side. We ask that you keep Kim and our family in your prayers and ask that you respect our need for privacy.”

The 53-year-old businesswoman was born in Seoul, South Korea and adopted by a Canadian family from Fairport, New York when she was five.

She purchased the Sabres with her husband Terry Pegula, 71, in 2011 and the Bills in 2014, ESPN reports.

Bills head coach  Sean McDermott said the team is thinking of Pegula.

“Our thoughts and our prayers are with them. What they’ve done for me, my family, this team and this city…. all of us collectively offer our prayers and support, ”said McDermott, according to SB Nation.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen said the team learned about Pegula’s health issues Tuesday and were shocked by the news.

“We’re all praying for them, and we appreciate everyone in the community praying for them as well,” Allen said. “She’s done so much for our organization, and we all love her so much. Again, as a team we’re saying our prayers, and we just ask that you guys do the same for us, please.”
