Teen rescues woman who drove into bay

A 17-year-old teen jumped into the water to save a girl who had driven her car into Patchogue Bay in New York, reports Fox5.

Antony Zhongor said he noticed the car go into the water while he was there relaxing and listening to music. He immediately jumped into action and went into the bay to help her out to safety through the back door of the vehicle.

“The idea of dying never crossed my mind,” said Zhongor to Fox5. “I was supposed to be at the beach yesterday but I was here.”

Police later identified the driver as 18-year-old Mia Samolinski. It’s believed she mistakenly stepped on the gas pedal when she intended to hit the break.

Samolinski’s father met Zhongor the next day to thank him for saving his daughter’s life.

“The real hero of the day is Anthony, without a doubt. There were a group of people on the dock. They were filming it. He did something about it,” said Charlie Samolinski to CBS New York. “She’s here today because of him.”

According to NBC Today, Zhonger plans to join the Marines after graduating from high school.

“Dying while suffocating is one of my worst fears, so I couldn’t imagine anyone going through that right in front of me. I feel like anyone would make that decision,” said Zhonger.
