The Alameda County Sheriff’s Department is hopeful that new DNA technology will help them solve a 14-year-old girl’s 1994 murder.
Twenty-eight years ago Jenny Lin was murdered in her home in Castro Valley, California. Her father found her body in the bathroom, Law and Crime reports.
On Friday, the family held a vigil and march in her honor, ABC 7 reports.
“We are still pretty frustrated that after all these years, the case is still not solved. However, we are encouraged,” John Lin, Jenny’s father, told ABC 7.
Sebastian Shaw was considered a suspect but was eventually ruled out. The 53-year-old died in October 2021 at the Oregon State Penitentiary, where he was serving three life sentences for murder, Mercury News reports.

“We have a couple of possibilities that we are holding close to our vest. We want to make sure we don’t disclose too much to a potential suspect,” Sheriff Ahern told ABC 7.
