Record number of Asians nominated for Emmy Awards

Sandra Oh, Bowen Yang and the stars of Squid Games lead a list of Asians nominated for an Emmy Tuesday.

The Wrap reports a record number of Asian and Asian American actors received nominations.

Oh earned her 13th overall nomination for the final season of Killing Eve, but she has never won.

Yang earned a nod for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series for Saturday Night Live. It’s his second in the supporting actor in a comedy category. He also has one writing nomination but is looking for his first win.

Squid Games received 14 nominations, reported The Hollywood Reporter, including five for acting. Members of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences nominated lead actor Lee Jung-jae, supporting actors Park Hae-soo and Oh Young-soo, supporting actress Jung Ho-yeon and guest actress Lee You-mi.

Squid Games is also the first non-English drama in the category for outstanding drama series.

Himesh Patel whose parents are both from the Indian state of Gujarat is up for outstanding lead actor in a limited series or movie for HBO Max’ Station Eleven.

Nick Mohammed whose father is both Asian Indian and Trinidadian won recognition for his work on Ted Lasso in the category of outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series.

Top Chef’s Padma Lakshmi collected her 13th Emmy nom for outstanding host for a reality or competition program and Tan France got his third nomination in the same category with his Queer Eyes co-hosts.
