The Manhattan District Attorney Thursday indicted a Florida woman in the pepper spray attack on four Asian women with 12 hate crime charges, reports CNN.
Madeline Baker faces eight counts of assault in the third degree and four counts of aggravated harassment in the second degree.
The attack in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District happened last month. Surveillance video caught the actual moment of the attack.
“Hearing the hateful and discriminatory words, ‘go back to your country’ is deeply painful and these women allegedly heard them before enduring the physical pain of Ms. Barker’s pepper spray,” DA Alvin Bragg said in a statement.
The Daily Mail reports a bystander shot video of the victims trying to walk away from the suspect, but she pursued them. The attacker then walks behind one of the victims and sprays her directly in the eye.
She was saying, like, ‘Go back to where you came from, you don’t belong here,” one victim said to ABC 7.
“She pointed to an Asian bystander who was a man, we didn’t know who he was, pointed at him and said take your (expletive) back to your country.”
Barker has pleaded not guilty.
