“Don’t Make Me,” a new Amazon Studios movie about an AAPI father-daughter relationship, is breaking hearts across the country.

The film stars John Cho as Max, who learns he has brain cancer. The surgery to treat the brain tumor only has a 20 percent survival rate. Max can either choose to get the surgery

He opts to take a road trip with his daughter Wally, played by upcoming actress Mia Isaac. Wally, who has no idea her father has a brain tumor, is reluctant to leave her teenage life behind to go on a father-daughter road trip.

Critics and casual movie-goers praised the performances of Isaac and Cho.

“Cho and Isaac’s stellar performances expose the gulf between familiarity and intimacy,” Amy Nicholson wrote in her review for The New York Times.

A Twitter user named Anthony described Isaac as “a terrific new talent” and John Cho as “a once in a generation talent.”

Many critics like Roger Ebert contributor Brian Tallerico enjoyed the chemistry between Isaac and Cho but did not enjoy the movie’s ending.

The film’s final shocking twist upset fans and critics alike.

“For the way that the film ends is a genuine text-your-friends-and-spoil-it-for-them-in-caps shocker, for all of the very worst reasons, a cheap, emotionally manipulative head-scratcher of a twist that leaves one with a sour taste in the mouth that lingers,” Benjamin Lee wrote in his review for The Guardian.

A Twitter user named Celeste said that the film’s ending had her in tears.
