Google co-founder Sergey Brin is divorcing his wife Nicole Shanahan after she allegedly had an affair with Elon Musk, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Brin was good friends with the Tesla CEO before the affair but the relationship has soured over the past few months.
Shanahan, who is Chinese American, and Brin married in 2018. They have reportedly been dealing with marital problems for months and officially separated on December 15.
According to Business Insider, the affair between Musk and Shanahan began in December 2021 while Brin and Shanahan were separated. Musk allegedly approached Shanahan at a party in Miami.
PEOPLE Magazine obtained copies of court documents that show Brin filed for divorce in January, citing “irreconcilable differences.” He requested joint custody of their three-year-old daughter.
Musk has denied reports that he had an affair with Shanahan.
“This is total bs. Sergey and I are friends and were at a party together last night!” Musk wrote in a post on Twitter Sunday night. “I’ve only seen Nicole twice in three years, both times with many other people around. Nothing romantic.”
Brin and Shanahan did not respond to requests for comment from PEOPLE or the WSJ.
