15k reward in Chinatown Shooting

A $15,000 reward is being offered in Chicago’s Chinatown after a shooting, earlier this month, left a 24-year-old dead, ABC 7 Chicago reports.

Police say two men got into an argument before shooting at each other on July 1. Cook County Crime Stoppers reported 24-year-old Jennifer Medrano was the woman killed, and a 42-year-old woman was shot in the hand.

Crime Stoppers also passed out flyers about the $15,000 reward on Friday, July 29 in Chinatown, Chicago Sun-Times reports.

“We’re asking the community, please reach out and tell us who this individual is,” Cook County Crime Stoppers chairman George McDade said to ABC7Chicago. “We don’t know want to know your name.”

The shooting took place on the 2200-block of South Wentworth. One of the gunment, a 38-year-old man, was injured after being shot in the buttocks. Police said he was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

The other gunman was seen running away in the surveillance video. Police said they have identified a person of interest in Medrano’s death.

“I think what I hear is the heartbreak,” McDade said to ABC7Chicago. “A young lady who is in the time of her life going out to enjoy herself and that’s all taken away because someone had a gun.”

According to CBS News , Chicago’s Chinatown has dealt with a number of shootings and violence in recent months. The community began calling for action to address the rise in crime back in April, NBC Chicago reports.

Anyone with information connected to the shooting that took Medranos’ life should call Cook County Crime Stoppers or Chicago police.
